Bootlegger’s Ball 2012

Bookmark and Share

Plans for the second annual Frontier Spirits Bootlegger’s Ball are coming together. But, a little bit of Bootlegger’s Ball Q and A.

Q: Wait, there was a first annual bootlegger’s ball?

A: I realize this label may have taken some longtime Frontier Spirits fans by surprise. Last year’s Bootlegger’s Ball was really just a big whiskey tasting at our house, where I tried to get some hard data around what people liked about various kinds of whiskey. It was a roaring success (and induced at least one roaring hangover if tales are to be believed) so when we uploaded the pictures to Flickr, I needed a clever name to attach to it. Thus: the bootlegger’s ball.

Q: Does this ball involve actual dancing?

A: No, there will be no actual dancing.

Q: Does this ball involve actual bootlegging?

A: Making bootleg spirits – that is, the act of distilling spirits without a license (and specifically without paying the revenuers) is illegal in the United States of America. No, this ball does not involve actual bootlegging.

Q: So.. why call it the bootleggers ball?

A: You do know I work in marketing, right?

Q: What is this event about then?

A: In short, it’s about the very thing that Frontier Spirits was founded upon: good friends getting together and enjoying alcohol responsibly. This year’s event will involve three Frontier Spirits creations: hard apple cider, blueberry wine, and blueberry cordial. In addition we’ll bust open the whiskey collection, and feature some good old bootlegger’s music.

Q: I can’t go, how can I live vicariously through people who do?

A: Non-embarrassing pictures of the event will be on Flickr.

It’s a new year, and with the success of the blueberry wine and cordial before Christmas, I’m starting to hatch plans for the first batches of cider.

Using the lessons learned from the Two Moggies’ Apersnap (AKA Apercrack) jam, I’m going to attempt to do two separate runs of cider. The first will be a control group in the same style as the cider from 2011. The second will be “fortified” with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger, fortified with sugar: the goal being a cider that tastes somewhat like  apple pie in a bottle.

2012 is going to be a great year for Frontier Spirits. There has also been a request for strawberry wine, so we’ll have to figure that out as well…
